Are you pouring the cornstarch directly onto the woofer cone?
You might want to consider affixing a small petri dish or bowl to the cone itself, then pouring the cornstarch mixture into that.

actually, I'm using a plastic lid from a peanut butter jar epoxied to the center of the cone. Had some more fun today actually - friend John busted out the homemade ferrofluid.
I remember finding you cymatics vid and blogging about it a while back - good stuff. It was the first I'd actually seen this now familiar setup.
